Langtang Valley is very close to Kathmandu. A short drive of 19 miles from Kathmandu is enough to reach the wilderness of Langtang. Though Langtang is close to Kathmandu, the Langtang valley still very much possesses the unique culture and diversity- even after the devastating earthquake.

The settlers in the Langtang are the descendants of Tibet, who carried their norms and values to Nepal and are still true to their unique cultures and traditions. The Mongol-faced settlers in the Langtang ad the harsh and unforgiving yet beautiful landscape make for a combination that very much resembles the Tibetan villages. So, the Langtang valley trekking is very favorable for the trekkers who are short in time.

A Langtang valley trek is usually 9 to 13 days long. The trek can be tailored according to the requirement and the comfort the trekker wants. Though trekking solo is possible, it is advised not to travel alone in these times. A companion or two always makes the journey more fun and interesting.

A journey is not counted in the number of miles you travel, but in the number of friends you make.

The maximum altitude you will reach in this trekking is 5000m.

The cost of trekking in the region varies according to the number of days you spend. The cost of spending a standard day in Langtang trekking is around $130. This will cover for you the porters, guides, food, accommodation, permits, transportation (if any) and many other things.

The fitness level required for Langtang valley trekking trip is moderate. Anyone who is a little bit athletic can do this trek easily. Both types of accommodations are available in this trekking trail. You can choose to stay in the teahouse if you dont like staying in a camp. Or you can naturally opt to stay in the camp to experience a little cold weather.

The trek starts at Syabrubesi which is at an elevation of 1500m above the sea level.

The major stops in the Langtang valley trek:

Kathmandu- Syabrubesi: This is an approximately a 7 hour drive via Dhunche. Dhunche is a jam pakced in the season of Janai Purnima. It is in the route of the great Lake Gosainkunda. It is believed that the Lord Shiva himself came to Gosainkunda to cool down the flare of poison which he had swallowed to save the world.

Syabrubesi-Lama Hotel: The trek starts from this day. A 6 hour trek takes us to the famous Lama Hotel.

Lama hotel-Langtang village- Mundu: On this day, we can enjoy the vista of the fantastic Langtang Lirung. 6-7 hours of hike.

Mundu-Kyangjin Gompa: This is one of the best part of the trek. You will get to spot Kyangjin Gompa and the largest mani wall in Nepal in this day.

Kyangjin Gompa- Tsengo Ri: Explore the Kyangjin Gompa. Hike/Climb to Tsengo Ri-highest point in the entire trekking expedition is reached in this day- Return to Kyangjin Gompa.

Kyangjin Gompa-Ghoda Tabela: This will practically be the last day in the Langtang Valley. So, enjoy the scenic view as much as you can. Take the picture as much as you can. You might never come back to this place again L.

Ghoda Tabela- Syabrubesi: The last day you will spend in the entire Langtang Region. Tomorrow, youll be back to the bustling city- Kathmandu!

Syabrubesi- Kathmandu: A picturesque drive back to the valley of Temples- Kathmandu.

Langtang might have been close to where the earthquake struck. But, the Himalayas, which was formed by the collision of the Indian plate with the Tibetan plate is too big to be devastated by aftershock of the actual event (the event that gave birth to the Himalayas and Langtang thousands of years ago).
